Arafo is the owner of a Djiboutian bookshop chain ‘Victor Hugo.’ To bring her business into the modern era, Arafo participated in a We-Fi funded e-Commerce project implemented by the World Bank. The project supports women-owned businesses in developing e-Commerce strategies through group training sessions as well as individual consulting services. The program helped Afaro develop a business plan for an e-commerce platform to create an online bookshop service. In the future, her ambition is to keep expanding the service, and hopes to build it to become the ‘Amazon of Djibouti.’ Within a year and a half, the businesses that took part in the We-Fi e-Commerce project had an average turnover increase of 12% and the turnover generated through e-commerce increased an average of 16%.
